Kuopio – A student's point of view
Kuopio is an excellent city for studying and spending free time. There are good communications to the campus using public transport, bikes or just walking to the university. In the campus, all building are situated near each other in the Savilahti Bay. The university offers modern facilities: libraries, canteens, lecture halls and everything that helps your studies. The city centre is about 2 kilometres from the campus.
Kuopio offers many museums, art galleries, stores, restaurants and bars to ease the stress of hard student life. Speaking of which, traditionally KISA members are a familiar site in the Kuopio night life and famous for being well-behaving and cheerful party people. The night club Passion has almost became a legend among KISA students.
Kuopio has a reputation of being an all-round sports city, which is true indeed. Puijo is well-known as a winter sports centre, but it also gives an amazing background for jogging and hiking. Also there are many sawdust tracks and other jogging tracks all over the town passing great landscapes of ponds, forests and lakes. You should not forget the free of charge student indoor sports, for example basketball, football, floorball and badminton, held in Studentia by KISA and other faculties. Also if you're interested in different courses like dancing and yoga, they are held in Studentia with a small fee charged. If you are searching for the true essence of Finnish passion for sports, you can find it by attending a ice hockey match in Niirala. Kuopio's Kalpa is the pride and joy of Kuopio and the atmosphere is high when the home team is playing against other Finnish top teams in the Finnish Premier League, SM-liiga. In Kuopio, you can practice a wide range of sports from down hill skiing and budo sports to swimming and tennis.
